Re: Pet insurance

One also needs to read the small print in the contracts as many insurers will not renew at the end of the year for pre-existing conditions, e.g. Diabetes, epilepsy etc. So, having been treated for what could be a long term problem, then you find they are uninsurable.

Re: Pet insurance

I'm been with HelpuCover for many years. Excellent service, but as previously stated, not cheap. Just had next years renewal and it's gone up to £96 from £78 last year.

I'm not surprised, I only have to open the Vets door and I need am overdraft.

Re: Pet insurance

It might be better to put the cost of what you would pay monthly for insurance into a bank account and not touch it. Hard to do but you would have to treat it the same as a college fund for a kid....hands off till needed.

When I first insured Gertie 18 months ago, because of her 'dicky ticker', I chose one with gold knobs on until she'd finished her scans with the cardiologist and I knew exactly what was wrong.
I was worried incase she would need surgery.
Those direct debits cost me just over £48 p.m. with Pet Plan.

Re: Pet insurance

I was looking at insurance yesterday, they want the dogs history such as if they'd been aggressive with other dogs, this is impossible to know if it's a rescue dog so not sure how you could get it.
The PDSA are starting insurance I think I'll look into it.

Re: Pet insurance

When my furbaby was a baby we took out insurance at £8 per month with more than. Over the years the premium got higher and higher reaching eventually £60 per month and when he had to have an operation on his leg we were still left with big bill anyway so we dont pay it anymore. We put money aside in a separate account for emergencies. They have had more than enough money out of us, it was scandalous.
