Re: The first single you ever bought

I was given an old radiogram great big wooden thing, the radio part of it didn't work and the lamination was peeling off so at 4 years old I had this huge thing to play records on in the garden shed. My grandad put a mattress in there and nan gave me blankets so I'd disappear in there for hours to play my first record, bought with my saved up pennies. Nellie the elephant by pinkie and perky. I refuse to be embarrassed about it then but I am a little uncomfortable I still like it

All Shook Up Elvis Presley, it was a 78 rpm, probably the very last one pressed.

Re: The first single you ever bought

None of you could be as embarrassed as I am. The first single I bought was 'Long haired lover from Liverpool' by Little Jimmy Osmond.

I must have played it ten times when I got it home but left it on a chair and my dad sat on it, breaking it in half. He did buy me another one though.

I redeemed myself by buying 'Get outa me 'Ouse' by Hustler in 1974.

Not sure, but mine was probably either a Roy Orbison or Del Shannon's "Runaway."
I did have the hots a bit for Andy Williams too though.

Ps I was also aged 13 !
Not sure it would be my very first record but I was a huge fan of Shane Fenton (pre Alvin days) I’m a Moody Guy in the early 60s.
