Re: Day to Day food

I am never bored with food, like cooking and make everything from scratch.
My problem is there are too many things from which to choose .

I also cook all my food from scratch but still get bored.

Smoked Haddock, boiled potatoes, fine beans and carrots.

Re: Day to Day food

Let's post a few ideas of easy to make, easy to source ingredients for various meals. I'm sure between us we can find the variety we're looking for among the members here.

My favourite winter meal is Pork, apple and cider casserole. Makes a change from beef or chicken.

Simple ingredients (pork, cooking apple, onion, carrot, cider, and a pork casserole packet mix), done in the slow cooker.

Re: Day to Day food

I rarely eat red meat i tend to eat mostly chicken and fish which can get boring. I love roast veggies and stir frys and you can jazz then up with herbs and spices. I love cheese too so I use that a lot in cooking, it adds a lot of calories though so beware

Yes I don't eat Red Meat, normally, Fish, Chicken or Pork.

Jazzi's Pork in Cider sounds good.

Re: Day to Day food

I live alone and despite being practically housebound, I cook from scratch always. I batch cook and freeze the results.

My usual fare is Soups, casseroles (chicken or beef) fish, stir fry, curry, quiches, and pies, lasagnes and chili. I also mix up savoury crumble toppings, which again I freeze and then spread on the top of, maybe, minced beef and bake. Last week I used two chicken breasts, and mushrooms, made a creamy sauce using creme fraiche, and with ready made pastry made six single serving pies. I too have a range of spices, vinegars etc.

I also tend to improvise when cooking and throw in unlikely spices or herbs.

Re: Day to Day food

I've got about 14 dishes various of us enjoy I cycle through them I also look at the half price or bogof bargains for anything to try each week.
I use different herbs but no spices so we change it up a bit. If I make soup it's rarely same twice as I fling in anything I need to use up.
Even something mundane like chips is different each time because I buy different potatoes as they become cheapest, and a sprinkle of Parmesan or herbs on them make them different each time too.

We have a few dishes we all like they are used most though as it's just easier if we all eat the same.
