France's efforts are not working because it is in their interest to let as many pass through as they possibly can.

This is why we should just kick them into touch and set up our own border controls on this side of The Channel.

Yes, delays would be inevitable, but that is the price we (and they) would have to pay.

Identity checks should be carried out on board ferries before their doors are opened and, of course, thorough searches of vehicles.

Any would-be illegal immigrants should not be allowed to leave the ferry; they would remain the ferry company's responsibility. Their fault for not checking them before allowing them on board.

An alternative, or additional strategy would be to ensure absolutely no hand-outs, housing or healthcare be given to anyone here illegally.

Sadly, I realise that none of this is going to happen and so we must accept the inevitable ruination of this country. When we have become sufficiently poor, they'll scuttle off back to France!

Didn't a Hungarian driver do that sometime back?
He realised a couple of immigrants had gotten into his truck.
So, he carried on driving for some time and then stopped. He undone the back and told the immigrants they were in England. They were ecstatic, kissing the ground and jumping around. He closed the doors and drove off.

Little did they know that he'd actually left them in the middle of France........

Re: Damn French (Contributing to border security)

Hi

It is not France's Border with the UK, it is our border with France we are policing.

It is our job to prevent illegals and criminals entering the UK.

It is a great advantage to the UK to have our checks in France and not in Dover.

Take back control of our Borders was a big thing in Brexit and it is about time we did.

The papers are full of it this morning, a stitch up, £44 million more for extra checks, fencing and detectors.

It should have been ten times that amount, we should be inspecting every vehicle for illegals and contraband, not a % of them.

Long ago, when I was working the East Coast Ports, we did Port Health, every vehicle on a Ro Ro Ferry was checked before it went out of the secure area, seriously good fencing, as it was a Rabies Control Area.

We even checked the health of the ships crew, with a Doctor on stand by to stop Health Tourism, a favourite trick at that time was for someone to sign on as crew to get to the UK for Medical Treatment.

They were refused entry.

All those things are long gone.

EU Free Movement is not 100%, we can refuse any EU Citizen who poses a threat to Public Health or Public Safety, which of course includes those with a Criminal Record.

More recently I worked for sometime on a system to allow us to do exactly that, comprehensively linked to EU Databases.

It was scrapped on the grounds of cost.

Work that one out.

No prizes for working out who scrapped it.

I have a lot of French relatives Julie, but none of them have ever said they would like to be out of the EU. They do however think that their country should be doing something to stop all the illegal immigrants getting in.

That's main part of the reason they want out. I think where they live has been so badly affected they can't see any way to stop it other than leaving.

Let the French pay for it. Their country- their problem- their illegal immigrants, they let them in.

What ever happened to to agreement, " the first country to offer safe haven should take them in"

It is about time our PM said "sod off" sort out your own mess

Just look at the size of France compared to the UK. They have so much spare land they don't know what to do with it

So, in that case the French could say "sod off, keep the border at Dover, sort out your own security, not in our country". Just imagine the consequences of lorries lining up waiting to go through Customs checks in Kent.

That may have to happen. It's just sensible we check who is coming and going. Although it would be better to do it in France than here to turn them around if they aren't able to come in.
