Re: What do you take us for David?

the ultimate question is: "can UK successfully survive economically without being a member of the ECU" I'm sure someone out there with more financial and economic knowledge and practice than we have can answer that - but will they be covering their own backs first?

Re: What do you take us for David?

It's not the fact that the Bank of England is doing such an assessment but a) the way they expect us to believe it was an accidently sent to the press. And b) The article states that the Bank of England is looking at 'The Dangers' of leaving the EU, not the implications, which means they have already made up their minds about the outcome. I don't suppose they will find that we will be better off.

Re: What do you take us for David?

England is no longer a nation island and empire on which the sun never sets. I think sometimes we live on our past glories and not todays realities. I do have some serious doubts that England could any longer "go it alone" It would also be interesting to read some "scholarly documents" rather than bank statements about the topic - anyone got any?

Obviously a scaremongering tactic to influence the forthcoming referendum.

Glad others feel the same OGF.

It's so blatantly obvious!

The thing that really annoys me is how the export figures are manipulated by those who want us to remain part of this corrupt "club".

I lived and worked in Holland years ago - based in Rotterdam.
The port is called Europoort and it was pretty big in 1976 but a large percentage of goods handled there were turned around for onward shipment - I know because I was very hard-up at the time and luckily got cash-in-hand night work on the docks offloading and loading ships using forklift trucks as I had a full truck license as I'd worked at what was then Lancer Boss.

Nearly every ship carrying British goods was turned around - with the receiving vessel bound mainly for non-European destinations.

The area dealing with actual imports was reletively small.

Of course this was years ago but from what I see, Europoort still operates the same way.

Every time I see someone claiming rubbish about Britain's exports to the EU I can't help but laugh.

I worked for a French company when the French Beef Ban was in place.

In France they all thought it was hilarious that the British media were moaning about it because France was almost totally self-reliant in Beef!

Virtually nobody in France bought British Beef! stevmk2

Exactly! I'd be very worried if BOE weren't looking at this - now that would be news

We are been shafted by the politicians who for their own ends want us to remain in the EU, so they are spoon feeding us with miss-information and using the BOE as a conduit.....

Excellent and informative post Steve.

Re: What do you take us for David?

Whats everyone getting their wy-fronts and knickers in a twist about, the present administration where voted in with a majority by the electorate to follow the policy to renegotiate our terms of membership of the EU then put it to us the voter to stay in or come out.

So why all the fuss as regards the Bank Of England looking at the various scenarios for the country, its known as forward planning being sensible covering all options and not been caught with your pants down.

I expect it was leaked to the Labour supporting paper probably by some deluded socialist bank employee.

And dont forget the Labour party have today dropped their opposition to the referendum and are going to support it, after admitting that during the run up to the election they ignored the electorate who told them on the doorstep that they wanted a say on membership.

Re: What do you take us for David?

Some people obviously feel differently about this so-called Bank of England slip up but nonetheless, the suspicion regarding this incident is palpable.

It just goes to show how little trust we have in those running our countries, which, in democratic countries I would have honestly thought politicians and civil servants would see as having very serious implications.

Are they really that complacent or are the opinions of the electorate given such low regard these days? stevmk2
