Re: Greetings To All Australians Here.

Oh, I know this one!

A digger was originally a term used for a miner in Australasia.
In NZ it was generally a kauri-gum digger.

Then it was used as a military slang term for soldiers (World War I) from Australia and NZ.
While the Australians and New Zealanders would call each other "digger", the British tended to call the NZ'ers "Kiwis" and the Australians "diggers".

Now it's used as a friendly term of address as in 'How are ya Digger?

Fair enough, if you say so. But just to prove your point tell us your favorite joke please, Muddy.

Thank you LMB! I am not up to date with Aussie slang terms and these Aussie lads tend to confuse me.

The word digger goes back years. Its an old Aussie slang for friend.I think it was used before we started calling everyone mate. Digger was also used amoungst the war veterans.
