Very crafty

I don't do any crafts personally but parts of our house is given over to them. Cross stitch pictures are everywhere on the walls and hand-stitched quilts adorn the beds. A few quilts are hanging on the bedroom walls. Mrs. mart also makes greetings cards, knits, makes Christmas Tree decorations, does hardanger and other crafts I can't think of right now. As I write this, I can hear the Create and Craft channel running on the TV. A very crafty person indeed!

Here are 3 quilts, although she has gone onto make other more colourful ones:

And some cards (I have to make the inserts):

If you want to see some cross stitch pictures, there are some shown here. More can be seen in under the heading 'Cross stitch & Crafts' in the left-hand menu.

Re: Very crafty

They're lovely Mart, the quilts would come in very handy for spreading on chairs and settees for dogs and cats to sit on.

Re: Very crafty

All of the grandchildren have her hand made quilts on their beds. First she'll make one for the cot and later, one for the full sized beds. She is very single-minded once started on a project and that's why she manages to turn out the quilts so quickly. Another big interest is making greetings cards. Some are very intricate and she comes up with lots of different ideas for them. Nobody goes without a hand made card when occasions arise. When not doing either of those crafts, she goes back to her first love of cross stitch.

She completes items fairly quickly that might take others many months or more to complete but then she able to do her crafts nearly all the time. She always was a busy sort and since becoming disabled (1991) all her concentration has switched to craft work. Considering she is unwell enough to have to stay in bed sometimes, it's surprising how much gets completed. 1992 (couldn't do anything for the first year) to 2010 is a lot of years though. Everyone admires what she turns out and the quality of it.

I write this on her behalf because computers and socialising on the Internet isn't her thing. Not an unsociable person of course but just not interested in the Internet, other than using it for online purchases. I have tried without success to get her to join a forum here and there but as said, she is very single-minded when working on a craft project. Your comments are much appreciated though.

Re: Very crafty

I think that is it Anna, except Mrs mart calls it Scandinavian embroidery. There's an example in the page of our site linked to below. Only a small picture but I could photograph some other work to show you. I know that cutting of the holes after the embroidery is done is the scariest part. You have to be careful not to cut into the stitching.
