Animals With Cameras

New documentary on BBC started last night, fascinating footage from unique cameras attached to animals. 1/3

Meerkats revealed their lives underground and their tunnels mapped out showing the complexity. An orphan chimp revealed the skills to join a group in the wild, while penguins catching prey specifically hunted anchovies as the most nutritious food for their young.

It was an amazing program, I love wildlife series & this is one of the best. Only the BBC can make these programs so well.

I have recorded this. Gordon Buchanan is my favourite wildlife photographer. I went to talk he did a couple of months ago and we had the pleasure of a front row seats for what was a fascinating evening. The venue was filled.

Re: Animals With Cameras

This is a fantastic series these wildlife cameramen have the most amazing experiences. A farmer in South Africa was given an insight into why the baboons were eating his butternut squash crop and the footage showed him the trees and berries bushes, their natural food, which he could plant to deter them. Seal mothers were filmed underwater and the footage revealed how they dived to the seabed to reduce the risk of shark attack. Three orphan cheetahs cubs were filmed learning to hunt, skills their mother would have taught them.

The care the film crew take to position the camera and protect the animal from being harmed is rewarded with extraordinary interaction with them.

Re: Animals With Cameras

The cameras captured film of devil rays near the Azores, scientists believe they gather here both to mate and give birth because an undersea volcano provides food and shelter. The camera clearly captured an unborn pup moving in the womb. Brown bears in Turkey at risk from eating human waste food and in Southern France wolves are increasingly becoming a problem for sheep farmers, night vision cameras showed that using guardian dogs was an effective way to deter them rather than shooting them, which although illegal, they did to protect their flocks.

Last in series.
