Too big?

I don't know if it's just me...but just lately I haven't been able to finish a single plate full of food whenever I've eaten out.

It may be that some Gastro pubs or Restaurants feel they need to pile the portions high to justify their prices but i hate seeing food go to waste. I'd rather have half the amount for the same price than have to leave so much behind on my plate

What do you think?

Re: Too big?

One of the several reasons we no longer eat out, even in other people's houses they pile the plates up.

Re: Too big?

I feel the same as you both do. Since I had a very, bad fall last August that left me with a concussion...I just don't seem to be able to eat very much, anymore.

I have lost quite a bit of weight do to not eating for the first month after... But, now I find, that I am hungry and look forward to having a meal... However, I end up leaving so much on my plate...if it was still the 50's...my father would tell me, that there are children in Europe, starving...

I am learning slowly to not put so much on my plate...

You're right Julie
Even a simple curry with rice or naan bread can stretch to 3 meals for me now!
I have to freeze what's left

Is the UK taking after the US in our portion sizes I wonder

Re: Too big?

I’ve never had a big appetite and so eating out can be a problem. If I ask for a small portion they often say, leave what you can’t eat, but that is not the point, if I have too much in front of me I’m overfaced.

I often get over the problem by having two starters, my second being my main course. This mostly works well for me and if I’m still hungry I can always have a pud!

If I have a starter I eat even less of the main...so that's a really good idea Val

Funnily enough, we are actually seeing less food for more $, unless one goes to a buffet or family style restaurant. So...we're feeling a bit ripped off. I used to have lots of left overs. Even many Chinese restaurants now have skimpy portions. It's not right! Lol!
