You're absolutely right - you do get attached, but when you absolutely can't keep them, it still feels good to know you've shown them what a loving home is, and that they're going to be ok in their new home.
The goodbyes always involved tears though.

Looks quite Akita-ish in coat do you think?
Both eyes are blue - actually they're more a blue/grey.
And yep, he's still teething. Boy, is he ever!!
His coat actually makes me think of a German Shepherd, as does the colouring on his back, which is tan and black.

His head shape does make me think a bull breed, as Meg mentions below.
I dunno - maybe he's just a combo of all the good breeds!

Pleased to hear Mungo has taken to him, as you say it could help with the confidence issue

I think you are going to be busy
Busy for sure this end, but I absolutely enjoy the puppy stage. I love their energy, their innocence, and their joy for life. And all that comes with it.
Yep including the biting, and potty training. Which has been a piece of cake with him - no accidents inside since the second day. Sure hope I didn't jinx that!!

The GSD's do this, the ears go up and down like yo-yo's while they are teething, before they finally stay up properly, and his look like they are on the move to me.
Both ears were up when we got him. The right one has since flopped down. I didn't know GSD's flopped up and down like yoyos! Interesting.
Will be watching Chester's closely, as I do think he has GSD in him.

I need to find one my cats would approve of or I'd never hear the end of it!

Re: Foster failure. Again.

Our kitty (a rescue we took in at 4 weeks!) has approved of both Mungo and Chester!
But I have to admit he was raised with dogs.

He'd already met our older dogs, but this was the first time seeing a pup.
Jeeves the kitty and Jiggs the pup!
They became the best of buddies.

The dog is lovely......and so is that kitten. I am a cat lover. I fostered a few years ago, what a wonderful time I had with those baby kitties.....I hated to lose them. I may do it again next year.

Poalo would go missing for days if strangers visit, Gypsy just gives one of her looks. Floyd was with us for 16 years so they may take a while to accept a new dog.

Aw, Floyd.
Yeah, cats can be, um, special. Yeah, that's the word!
It could take a while, but it can be done.
Right now, our kitty's on one of the dog beds, and of course the dogs don't object. They all respect those claws!

Unquote.

Jackie, this is only while they are teething usually.
As you have found out, sometimes one is up and the other down, then they will alternate. They look so funny some days, as those ears have a mind of their own.

If they are not permanently up by about 6 months, they have usually given up!

Once they are up permanently up, the only other time they might droop is a good indicator that they are feeling pretty poorly.
GSD's have wonderful 'talking ears.' Keep an eye on them.
