She thought I had a strange sense of humour. She put it down to me being "foreign".
We were watching a period film about Henry VIII and she said: "That must be an old film."

Talking about old films, when my wife was a teenager and she saw an old Charlie Chaplin silent film clip on TV she actually thought people walked like that in the old days, she really did!

But people did speak differently, didn't they?
On old News Reels, they felt as if they had to shout.
Funny that, now I'm getting old and deaf, everybody speaks in low tones and mumbles.
