The first single you ever bought

What was the first single you ever bought, either for you by someone else,or with your own money?
Post the video if you can with a story of why you ended up with the record in question.

Mine was Abba and Take A Chance On Me.
It was February 1978, I was thirteen years old and my sister and myself got a little reward for clearing away some snow from outside my parents' house.

59p each sent us both to Boots the Chemist (when they used to sell records) and we bought the No.1 and No.2 chart hits that week. Luckily, I got the No.1 song which is rather less cheesy than the one my sister bought - The Brotherhood Of Man's 'Angelo'.

I would have to go with Maggie May.
Although if I remember rightly it became a double A side record because Reason To Believe started getting more play time than MM and stayed at the top of the charts for what seemed like a life time.

I was never iinto 'pop' music, but a big 'classical' fan. Classical music was not sold as singles, but 'albums'.

I bought an album of music by Borodin, this was one of my favourites:

Re: The first single you ever bought

I'm pretty embarrassed too, but then again , I was only 16 then.
Sheila by Tommy Roe.

WOW, what lyrics.
But it got better...my next single bought was 'The Last Time'
The Strolling Bones.

Played it over and over and over until the needle gave up the ghost.
Then, I think, someone invented Long Playing Records or LP's for short.
However, the absolute last single I've bought, must have been 80's or 90's, just because I love the sound of the banjo,

Don't say I'm weird, I already know.
