Same with carrots, they are full of flavour if pulled and cooked same day.

If I had them here, they would have to be just a few in those veg bags thingys.
Yes, I have only ever grown them in deep tubs, didn't have room to plant out in the soil. My trouble was that I could never wait to dig them up and eat them.

I used to have one of those frame and plastic cover things which were ok but had to be tied down in high winds.

Also the plastic deteriorates after a while.

Re: Seed sowing

I used to grow everything from seed but there was an incident here in the summer of 2007 and I lost nearly everything in the garden including the 2 plastic jobby greenhouses and all the annuals I'd grown from seed.

After that I lost interest and I haven't bothered since. Maybe now I have more time I could get back in to it.

Re: Seed sowing

My early seed potatoes arrived yesterday and will soon go into egg boxes to chit. I will plant them in March.
I am waiting for the runner beans to arrive in the next few weeks.

The weather man says February will be cold for the whole month and the ground is waterlogged so I won't be doing much outside yet except picking purple sprouting broccoli

Might be an idea.

Mups some of mine are going in tubs, I don't have much room in my raised beds. You can get some great yields in a tub.

Which compost do you find best Meg, or do you just use garden soil?

Mups I will use a mixture. For compost I use the Which best buy from B & Q own brand Verve.
