There are a lot of people who in my eyes deserve the title national treasure, these are the every day people who do volunteer work, wherever, what would we do with volunteers in hospitals, charity shops, etc..Our celebrities do good works to, rod Stewart for me

Well all the ‘celebrity’ spots seems to be taken up now after the successful corn flakes promotion where you got a little plastic badge in every packet saying "Thank you for buying our flakes, you are now a celebrity"
Every Tom Dick and Harry is a celebrity according to the media, just look at celebrity pointless/countdown/golf/ etc., if you know any of the ‘celebrities’ phone in and you get a prize, won’t be long till we’re swamped with ‘National treasures’ but that’s no problem to the media, they’ll come up with a new title, maybe “National Living God/Goddess”, that’s not as silly as it seems, wasn’t Greta Garbo described as a “Screen Goddess” in the film magazines of her day.

Good answersJem, above, I agree wholeheartedly.
I didn't want to cross that awful barrier into the 'celebrity' aspect of things, but never mind. I'm on the assumption that a 'national treasure' has the distinction of being a well-known personality who has a little more respect than your everyday narcissistic attention-seekers such as Kim Kardisian, the horrific Katie Price and the entire cast of TOWIE. What a sad state of affairs this is when Andy Murray's mum is deemed a celebrity.
