Re: One of my Aussie Poems: Southern Cross.

Jim the Dog

He looked so bloody stupid
when just a few weeks old,
and he grew up really agro
as he stood there big and bold.
He'd have a go at other dogs
no matter what they were,
he'd get in right amongst it
all you'd see is flying fur.
But the dog got sick and died
one day,only nine months old,
and i never could replace him
he was worth his weight in gold.
And it broke my heart to lose
him, and i've only one regret!
That i diden't break the jaw
of the f...ing low life vet.

In Memory of Jimi.....

BILLSTEAMSHOVEL.........I am enjoying your posts.

You are a tonic. Try not to get barred from here,

My uncle Robert (Robert Senior) spent his entire working life at sea, coincidentally, for a time on the
SOUTHERN CROSS ,one of the early cruise liners.
He was very left wing and as he grew older & more militant was banned from joining some ships . THis didnt deter him & after coming ashore aged 65 continued to agitate his ex employers. He had a marvellous life though. I based some of my UNcle VIvian japes on him.

Its what he dident do!

I took Jimi as the last pup from a 9 dog litter of bitzers, they were going to knock him on the head,he was ugly and stupid looking so i took him,he was a bit of everything, mainly border collie cross sheperd/kelpie.

He had parvo, all the litter had it,it was in the soil at my mates house from a previous dog they owned.
It was 1986,i was off work, had my kneecaps removed and did not have a plastic card or cheque account, but i had money in savings bond certificates,i offered these to the vet,$1000, more than enough,he refused them because they were in my name and i could only cash them at a bank.
It was Saturday morning,no banks open,he took Jim and promised to help him and i would be there Monday at 10:30 with cash money,he was a grumpy hum and ahh type bloke,i phoned Sunday morning and no answer,i went around there and got the after hours number and the lady i spoke to said they put Jim to sleep,i asked why,she said the vet said to he was too sick to save,i asked when he was put asleep, she said on Saturday morning when i left the surgery,i asked why,she said the vet said i had asked for him to be put down??
I dident and i really had the shits,i could of killed him,i really could of throttled this bloke, all the pups had parvo, all were saved except Jim,i saw him on Monday and they called the police, they come to my house later, and warned me to not contact him and gave me a court order paper to keep me away, bloody dog prick!
