I can't remember exactly what he did when he did the dirty deed. (That sounds almost poetic, in a way!)
Perhaps he could just do nothing and look as shocked as everyone else, assuming there is no evidence of him committing the murders.
I really can't remember exactly what Phelan did and what might be found to point the finger at him. Perhaps others might remember some important details.
