The Swiss overwhelmingly rejected a plan to introduce a guaranteed basic income for all some years ago.

77% opposed the plan, 23% backed it.

Re: under 55?

I don't get it.
Why age 55?
Now they're raising pension age why not anyone under pension age?
Come to that ... why not pensioners or are they just expected to cheer in a philosophical gush of love for their fellow man and then run out and hug a tree?

It does seem a bit random I guess those over 55 don't matter anymore, won't be so easily persuaded by bribes ? Or is that too cynical ?

Join the club ... cynicism is usually a quite healthy attitude to have these days .

Re: under 55?

Sounds like a vote grabber!
They could pay for it with women's pensions they've nicked. They probably realize they've got to make up for those lost votes somehow !

I agree, it should be for anyone over 60 but under 67 to make up for pension changes some of us here will have to deal with while at the same time being too old to keep up with gruelling job interviews.

10k isn't much unless they plan to dole this out once a year and not as a one-off. But can't see how they'd make it work with a capitalist model.

Re: under 55?

Ha ! Some loon come up with an idea (that's what they get paid for) that will never happen.

It will cost more to implement than the money they give away.

To the benefactor, a loss of benefits , given in two parts over two years, got to tell them what you will use it for.... so many conditions put forward.

There is a similar system in one of the Arab countries, (could be Saudi Arabia or UAE) where they distribute the wealth with a large cash bonus to each citizen each year, However, their population is no where near the size of ours, and they are probably all Princes and Princesses anyway and not on benefits !
Ludicrous idea from the 'bright spark' in the RSA.
