Hi Missy, Yes, I forgot to mention that this is the first application for a 'photo' type licence. My wife currently has the 'old' paper type...
Neither of us have current passports, so that wasn't an option, either.

Personally, I can't see where your problem is - he/she would have had to give profession if still working so what is the issue with having to state "retired teacher/lawyer or whatever" ?
It was simply an oversight on our part!
We all thought that just putting 'Retired' was sufficient! However, it wasn't....The information required to check the persons identity was already there, on the form...
Adding, road sweeper/gardener/undertaker, or whatever, doesn't help them to identify that person as 'suitable'...
That is the point...

Exactly, so I don't really see what the reason for your post was?

At times they get so involved with paper work ...
Everything has to be order ..
Test her capability of driving .. not the neighbor profession ...
Your neighbor could have been blind .. yet if everything was in order
It would have probably been approved lol..

The reason was to gather other opinions on the situation... I've now heard yours, thank you very much for your input.

Indeed.

You are fortunate to live in a democracy.

We here live in a bureaucracy!

Re: Driving licence renewal...

I have some legal papers to sign and they must be witnessed by someone who is not a relative.
Fine I thought but then read professional qualifications ( accountant doctor etc )
Does this mean That someone who is a plumber/ carpenter / or any other blue collar worker is not qualified to witness a signature ?
Doctors no longer sign anything .
My solicitor will charge an arm and a leg for a 30 second signature then I have to get my witness to him .
It's seems archaic to me .
