Compensation for Children sent to Australia

I totally believe that these people should be compensated for their childhood suffering .
It has in many cases affected their entire lives .
We compensate every Tom Dick and Criminal

These were innocent child sent defenceless into horrible situations in a far away land by the then governments of Britain and Australia .

IMO Those still alive deserve something .

These are really horrible stories. Of course they should be compensated, but many were so vulnerable and then made to feel they were nothing when they got there.

Re: Compensation for Children sent to Australia

Personally, this whole affair is a disgrace , IMO. The Governments have known about this for decades and not acted. Now , after numerous amounts of those people have passed on , the answer seems to be 'compensation ' that will make everything right for those who are still able to relive their horrors.
Those responsible have not had to answer to anything and children and grandchildren of those affected must have also felt an impact on their lives.
Some of those children were not even orphans. They had been put into care because at the time their mothers were unable to look after them. Just after the war years was not an easy time for anyone.
Compensation might bring closure to some, but will never 'fix' the history.

Re: Compensation for Children sent to Australia

I was watching thar story on the 6 o'clock news. I've read about it before so i knew it had happend, but didn't realise that the Govt at the time, knew about all the abuse and not only knew but actively covered it up. On the news they were showing all the files about it, that had been kept secret.
Ok the 1940s, it was a long time ago, i daresay most of us were probably not even born. But it's still modern times, not as if it's the workshops where Oliver Twist was born.
Makes you wonder, even today, what else is going on in the world that we're not told about.

They were not strong enough to advocate for themselves. Some really sad stories and not realising that they were loved all their lives...

The government have files on all of this child trafficking, already vulnerable they were treated like cattle, the newsreels at the time are sickening to watch. How long will it take for this guilt offering to be paid, any amount will be insufficient.

Britain should hang its head in shame! The people who are still alive should be adequately compensated for they way they were treated.
