Re: Why Do Some Older People You Meet, Have To Mention Their Age ?

It's no good asking me what my age is, it changes every year and it takes ages to work it out counting on my fingers

Re: Why Do Some Older People You Meet, Have To Mention Their Age ?

I don't know whether it's age or because I was away from people for so long, but I wish people would be more open about themselves...and not just their age!

For some reason, the older I get, the more fascinating I think people are, and the more I talk to people, I find that everyone has a story in which even the details are interesting.

A perfect example is the brilliant thread Fruitcake started in the Travel section.

I think it's a shame that we have programmed people to think they are boring or that it is vanity to talk about themselves.

It's not vanity...it's a one-of-a-kind adventure.

82 and still on the go? Tell it!

If I make it to 80 I shall certainly be telling everyone I can persuade to listen captive audience preferred.

You might find your captive audience is generally 80+

I hope I won't be telling people unless they actually ask.

Perhaps by then we'll have stopped wittering on about rationing, and the Coronation.

Depends who's asking of course, and why. The fire people had a form to fill in.

Re: Why Do Some Older People You Meet, Have To Mention Their Age ?

I've just come across a rather apt saying in an old note book of mine ! " Old Age isn't all its cracked up to be, but its better than the alternative" Also, "Old Age? Embrace it, says Julie Walters - It'll knock years off you". I must have written these hilarious sayings in this note book years ago, probably preparing myself for the advancing years ahead !!! If people ask me my age I tell them " 21 ".

Re: Why Do Some Older People You Meet, Have To Mention Their Age ?

It is something I have noticed recently. What is it about old people that they can't wait to tell you exactly how old they are?

37 year olds never seem to feel obliged to tell you they are 37 (even if they say it is their birthday) but once someone gets over 75 (ish) it seems to be the first thing they want to tell you.

I wonder what age this starts at? and I wonder why?

Is it surprise?

You're a tad late with this question Bruce - it's already just been done.
