Re: Jury Service

I was called for jury service some years ago, but in completing the form I was sent, noticed an exclusion for those involved with the "administration of justice". Since I was providing representation at courts and tribunals, when I sought clarification, was told that I could not do jury service as I was already involved in the administration of justice.

Re: Jury Service

It may be different here in Scotland but when you are being considered you receive a form to fill in to state when you will not be available within the next year.

I have actually been "called up" three times! On the first occasion, I was not selected. I was chosen the second time - a minor case, and I really enjoyed the experience. I was again selected on the third occasion and was part of a jury which had to record a verdict of "not proven" largely because of police incompetence in handling the case. It was most infuriating, especially when you consider the cost of such proceedings.

I didn't find judging another person a good experience but duty must be done. Somebody has to do it. I'm glad I didn't have to do it again.

Indeed it is .....

Absolutely EVERYONE in the courtroom is looking at you - my throat went very dry but I managed a coherent "Guilty" .....

I served once and sat on three cases - child molestation, assault with a deadly weapon and fraud.

My experience was mostly "enjoyable", but other jurors sat on cases of murder or rape, ugly and unpleasant, even emotionally upsetting .....

Yes once at the Old Bailey back in the 80s, I really enjoyed it, I had a whole week of work and they paid for my lunch as well.
