Prizes given on tv shows

My bil once won a lot of prizes on a tv show, that dusty bin darts show, many were fine but a boat stood in his land locked garage for years unable to be launched. Watching loose women they are offering a dream lodge holiday chalet. Paying ground costs for a year. What they aren't saying is you pay council tax, water and utilities on top of that and that the following year the ground rent is between £5000 and £10000 a year !

I can't imagine many people can afford that if they win it.

It sounds good but is probably going to cause headaches for the winner because until sold back to the site you are responsible for all costs !

Not so much a prize as a way into debt.

Good thread, Julie...and I fully agree with the above.
Same as those "luxury" holidays they give away. What they don't tell you is that you are to be used as a guinea pig holiday rep, asking all and sundry fanciful questions to earn your keep!

Really.

Dustybin wasn.'t a darts programme....do you mean Bullseye?

As for you BIL boat...why couldn't it be launched?
Why didn't he sell it?
Hardly the fault of the programme.

If you don't want tge prize.....dont enter.

As fir £200 per week ground rent.....where is it......Sandbanks?

You are right it was bullseye ! But when you enter these things you either don't know what the prize will be or what it will cost you in future.

Julie they could have rented out the chalet or sold it.
I have often taken part in competitions not wanting the prize on offer but knowing someone would buy it.

The only thing I ever won was a pair of yellow cotton sheets when I was in my teens, no good to me . I gave them away as a gift

You can sell them.
why your brother in law decided to abandon the boat is odd.
why could he not launch it or use it?

I have been watching some of the old episodes of Bullseye on Challenge and some of the lesser prizes seem hilarious now. Maybe I saw your BIL?
