Re: The Strange Case of the Russian Spy.

And so the story continues...

Ordinary Russian folk seem to be of the opinion that a spy who has betrayed his country deserves to die.

Maybe there are those here who feel the same?

If an English double agent had been bumped off in Moscow would we care?

And if the nerve agent used is identified and the finger points to Russia, or even to Putin himself, what can we do?

Is it the manner of his death that frightens people here more than Russias revenge?

Hi

I think you have hit the nail on the head Ruthio.

If he had just been shot, nowhere near as much publicity and fear.

Chemical Weapons scare people.

Salisbury diners told to wash possessions

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43362673

Up to 500 Salisbury pub-goers and diners have been told to wash possessions as a precaution after nerve agent traces were found.

Trace amounts of the substance used to poison ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were found at the Mill pub and Zizzi restaurant.

Prof Dame Sally Davies, the chief medical officer for England, said the risk of harm was "low".

The advice applies to anyone in either venue after 13:30 on Sunday.

People who were at either venue before closure on Monday are advised to do the following:
  1. Clothes should be washed, ideally in a washing machine
  2. Clothes which cannot be washed, for example if they need dry cleaning, should be double bagged in plastic until further notice
  3. Mobile phones, handbags and other electronic items should be wiped with baby wipes, which should be bagged in plastic and put in the bin
  4. Other items such as jewellery and glasses should be washed with warm water and detergent.

Dame Sally said after "rigorous scientific analysis" there was some concern that prolonged exposure over weeks and months could cause health problems but it was "not a subject for panic".

Hi

No way of knowing the attack would be carried out and what chemical would be used.

The "attack" was a week ago - the "nerve agent" was confirmed 4 days ago .....

BBC correspondent Kathryn Stanczyszyn said people in Salisbury are starting to ask why the advice had not been issued before now.
Quite rightly - the government reaction has been slovenly .....

Hi

As I have posted previously, the Government have made loads of specialists redundant and slashed the number of response units.

This I do not agree with.

I will also repeat that there was no way of knowing the attack would happen.

There are many nerve agents, very similar in effect, but different in treatment and an absolute sod to identify individual ones.

Was our Government's response too slow?

Yes,but a Political Decision, not the people on the ground.

I am getting fed up with Enforcement Officers being blamed for Government Cut Backs.

It was our current Prime Minister, Theresa May,who slashed your protection.

Her praise for Enforcement Agencies is the biggest set of double standards ever.

ANY weapons scare me, but this made me realise just how easy it must be to use chemical weapons here

Re: The Strange Case of the Russian Spy.

Hi

This class of Chemical Weapons was designed to be undetectable by usual NATO Technology.

They are made from Chemicals which are not banned under any Treaty, simple pesticides, organophosphates.

There are hundreds of them, very difficult to identify each one.

They are Binary Chemicals, two ingredients mixed together,on their own,no issue.

No issue when they are separate.

This was one of the very nasty ones, it is a powder, not a gas or liquid.

A very fine powder, gets everywhere.

It is blown about and is 5 times stronger than VX or Sarin.

A complete nightmare.

The responsibility of protecting us from this lies with Public Health England, often slagged off on this Forum.

A bunch of overpaid Civil Servants according to some.

They should have their Pensions slashed.

Public Health England have their Headquarters at Porton Down.

The other side of the fence to the Military.

You get what you deserve.
