Back pain

Most back pain is best managed by keeping active. Good advice.

Re: Back pain

Very true, Cinderella. Keeping active.
A lot of people blame their mattress when it's usually slobbing out on the sofa or recliner that causes back pain because the spine is not in alignment. The key is maintaining good posture and even keeping a brisk pace when walking can eleviate back pain.

Tai Chi is becoming popular and does give relief.

Re: Back pain

I used to do quite a bit of Tai Chi back in the 80's, and have thought about starting again.
I have been my yoga for the last 7 years though, and there are some very nice gentle back exercises you can do there. I'm sure it helps me keep going, even though I am told I have a 'bulging disc' at the lower end of my spine.

Re: Back pain

They recommend pilates for this type of problem. I've never tried it though.
I also did tai chi in the early 90s. (It was probably inspired by Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse lol). Maybe I was too young then and should try it again too. They say it's something you can do safely right into old age.

Re: Back pain

Pilates, Tai Chi and yoga are all good forms of exercise and help with posture. I haven't done these myself, but they are a good alternative for people who are older or not so active or for those who want to try a different form of keeping fit and supple.
