Re: Do you panic if you find an ant indoors?

Going back to wasps for a minute. A few years ago, we used to live opposite a farm which had beehives in the field. Occasionally, a radar-less bee would find its way into the house and I was quite happy to let it crawl on my finger and then I'd release it.

Slight problem - I wear specs.

This time, no specs on and I went to rescue the 'bee', but it wasn't - just a miffed wasp which resulted in a trip to A&E with an extremely swollen finger.

Can do better, must try harder (to wear specs)!

I loathe the little blighters Gwyn. I am sure they sting for the fun of it.
By the way, why on earth would you want bees crawling on you?
That's weird!

Any ant can cause anaphylactic shock, as can any bee or wasp. Just need to be allergic to them. Discovered last year I am allergic to wood ants and they are fairly harmless usually.

Bees are lovely, quite harmless, little creatures. They won't sting you unless you hurt them and they do seem to know when you are rescuing them. Bumble bees even quite like being stroked.

I meant its the wasps I loathe ST. I trust bees more than wasps, but still wouldn't go so far as letting them crawl about on me thanks. I had a bumble bee nest in the garden last year. They were going in and out of a small hole under the base of the shed. It was like heathrow airport with 'em flying back and forth all day. It got a bit scary trying to hang the washing out! Then towards autumn they all disappeared.

These were honey bees and would quite willingly hop on my finger, let me open a window and off they went. OH used to think I was mad too, but if you're calm, they're calm. Can't say that about wasps though - they're permanently angry!

I don't mind wasps, there have been Paper Wasps nesting around my house for 30 years they usually build their nests up in the roof of the patio or the eaves. This one was on one of my potted plants.

They are not as big as European wasps and are not aggressive unless you interfere with their nest then they have a powerful, painful sting. I have only been stung once when I was painting the house and knocked a small nest in the eaves.

Their nests are really amazing - such perfect constructions ! Still don't like them very much though.
