I remember the first time he appeared on TV as a guest. And how I took my departed dear old mum to see him in concert at Eastbourne.
Ironic how fickle people are in life. When alive they stop supporting such performers out of lack of interest , yet when the person dies he is heralded as the bee's knees. Funny old world.

As celebrities age they move out of the spotlight, as much their decision as the supporters. People tend to actively follow current artists, but Val's music will still be appreciated by thousands of fans, his legacy lives on in the same way that Beethoven or Buddy Holly 's does. Not lack of interest DOE we just forgot how good he was.

I loved him as a kid. I liked "Marvellous Toy" and "Paddy McGinty's Goat" the best, but all his songs were beautifully sung.
