How lovely! Sorry, I don't know much about them other than I've seen so many youtube clips and they are very smart and entertaining. Adorable.

My Aunt had a parrot for many years Toffee, it pined terribly for her when she died

It was a lovely thing but not for me, it made a terrible mess with its food and pooed on the furniture.

Re: wots the best type parrot..

A cockatiel is fairly easily hand tamed and becomes quite attatched to its owner..

Another possibilty is an agapornis or lovebird. They are the smallest of the parrot family but the become very bonded with their human..

We have an african grey ..He looks great and is funny but he has the bite power of a german shepard and isnt scared to use it..
Last week he bit a visitor (who had been warned twice) ..A grey is never really tame and very expensive to keep!

Re: wots the best type parrot..

If you buy two birds, don't expect them to talk. They will spend their time talking ' bird talk' to each other, and you'd be very lucky indeed to be able to train them to talk 'human' talk.
My advice would be to read and learn as much as you can about them before you buy, and then, if the idea still appeals to you then, buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop, as he knows his own birds and can give you many tips. It's also good to see where the bird comes from and how its been kept and reared.
A pet shop usually just buys in birds, so might not have the same in depth knowledge. If the birds are very young, they probably won't be able to sex them for you either.

Alternativly you could rehome a bird who has fallen on hard times....

Birdline, and they can offer advice about what bird is suitable for you..
