Hot Cross Buns

Usually a tasty sticky spiced bun either buttered or toasted but shop bought have now become quite tasteless and shock horror they are putting chocolate chips in them

What happened to the spices. Have we become a bland food nation to suit overall tastes !

Got to agree, got some from M&S other day supposed to be extra special with Bramley Apple and extra spice, fairly bland compared to what i remember.

I agree they are getting very bland, even when they say they have got extras in them. But I still like eating them with butter and strawberry jam on them.

Re: Hot Cross Buns

Sheila bought some at an emporium (shop plus garden centre plus cafe) a few days ago and they are delicious. When I was eating one Sheila said that she could smell the spices.

Re: Hot Cross Buns

Some of the shops are now selling Hot X Buns with Chocolate or Cranberry & Orange inside them. To me the shop bought ones in a packet are just too soft and doughy. The best bun I have ever had was from Percy Ingles, but unfortuneatly most of those shops don't exist now.

Chocolate chips, in a hot cross bun, solo? Ooh no.
I don't think they should alter traditional recipes anyway. They'll be putting chocolate chips in traditional christmas cakes next.

Re: Hot Cross Buns

Buy your buns and breads from a proper artisan baker imo. Stop buying bread from supermarkets. Real bakers can't compete with the supermarkets on price, but they can on quality and variety. Support your local bakery.
