Fancy a nsw brain?

Hi

We are now able to grow mini brains in the lab.

Used for research now, but not impossible to put them into machines in the not too distant future.

I'm not sure I would like a new brain but perhaps an extra one would be good. I could keep it in my trousers along with my other extra brain.

Interesting stuff though. It could prove good for research into brain disorders but hopefully not for anything too sinister.

Oh walluped cod or what one would expect from that organ!

What though is much nearer is being able to grow new nerves for those who have lost them through spine and leg injuries.

Re: Fancy a nsw brain?

This paves the way for an age old Philosophy debate.

It runs thus.

First take as red the position that technology has advanced to the point where a brain from a recently deceased human can be transplanted into another human (who for example might have terminal dementia or other mental condition).

The surgeon has person A and person B on the table. The brain from recently deceased person B is put into the head of Person A who later wakes up and recovers.

Question.

Is Person A now the original Person A or is he now Person B in Person A's body?

I personally assume in this sceanrio that the brain carries with it the memories and data of the person it belongs to.

So, do memories actual equate to who we are?

No - that debate is for our decedents! I have both had brain surgery and been present when it is done to others.
