They call it thermal coal I am not sure what other sort there is?

But it will have huge amounts of emissions that will undoubtably effect the enviroment.

Hi

Muddy, there are two different types of coal, thermal coal, burnt to produce electricity and coking coal, which is used to produce iron and steel.

Thermal Coal can be replaced by renewable energy, we will always need coking coal.

There are a lot more than two types of coal: lignite, bituminous coal, anthracite, cannel coal, for example, and coal has been used for a number of different purposes apart from burning.

An example pertinent to this discussion was the use of coal to produce 'town gas'.
