Re: Guess the plant

Not so quick Gerry - it is the 'same family' as the peppers. A touch more digging. You are so close, you can have 0.5 of a brownie point and the other 0.5 when you get it.

Re: Guess the plant

It looks like the Clammy Ground Cherry, but that doesn't have blue stamens...??

Re: Guess the plant

You are so close Eileen - I just checked the botanical name on that ground cherry.

The Gooseberry, then? Physalis franchetti has white flowers.

Re: Guess the plant

You have got the physalis right Eileen. If I gave you a clue to the second part of the botanical name as 'the city of brotherly love' can you make that final connection?

Spot on Eileen - you get the brownie point. I have about eight growing and they are all in flower. I have never eaten them before. I really hope they fruit - I want to make salsa

Re: Guess the plant

You helped with the hint. When I saw the pic it reminded me of a rather uncommon wildflower here, all I could think of was the Clammy something-or-other; then remembered while I was having lunch and had a Google.

I do love these "Identify the plant" threads; we've had several on Catsey. They found a little yellow spring blooming plant I found in the woods ... turned out to be a celandine, not native here, no wonder it wasn't in my wildflower book!

Thanks for the brownie point!
