The things some dogs eat.

Could hardly believe this article in my dog magazine:

"Boxer dog, Freddy, had owner Sheila Fowler is a tizzy when he suffered bouts of stabbing stomach pain and sickness. Vet Keith Robbins opened him up during an exploratory operation and was amazed to discover the three-year-old pet had swallowed a 12-inch bread knife - handle first.
Keith said, "Amazingly, there was no serious damage and Freddy is recovering well. He is a very lucky dog".

What a dog! What on earth made him do a crazy thing like that?

Re: The things some dogs eat.

Many years ago we had a Manchester terrier who ate nearly a foot of Christmas lights luckily she wasn't electrocuted and had munched them to a fine grain so they passed through her over the following days, but it was a worrying time.

May be more normal behaviour for dogs, but I find dogs eating maggots quite revolting...

Re: The things some dogs eat.

Would the maggots survive the stomach acids to multiply or would they die do you think?

Well I'm assuming they die as Bennie ate a whole load of them a few months back and they didn't reappear at either end!

I think they must die old Benny dog used to love the fishermen's maggots, and never did him any harm.

We are struggling with a poop eater at the moment, no kisses from Elsie YUUKKK but she seems in rude health and thoroughly enjoying her snacks when I don't catch her in time !

It is revolting, but apparently common. Lots of google stuff on it. And I guess they are just another form of protein, after all...

What's protein - the maggots or the poo eating?

I told ya in the beginning Julie, when your vet said she'll 'grow out of it', that its practically impossible to stop that once it starts, but everyone else "poo-poo'd" me!
