vaccines for children

I'm trying to find some advice for daughter who is stressed about the above subject .

When rosie was small she had her vaccinations and had severe allergic reaction for months , the last lot brought her up in hives and terrible dioreah for weeks , we then found she was allergic to eggs and this could have been the cause . Rosie is now 5 and at school and daughter is being told Rosie needs her booster . Rosie can now eat food containing well cooked egg , but daughter is worried sick and not happy for Rosie to have her booster. The vaccine they want to give her now is the polio and tetanus and something else (all in one )

As you can Immagine I'm concerned too . I'm not sure if Rosie should have any more injections due to the severe reactions in the past . Rosie has been seen by an allergy specialist and he refutes that the hives and dioreah reaction was caused by the vaccines , but WE know they were the cause .

As you can Immagine we are unsure what to do , yet the doctors are saying she should have them .

What are your thoughts please

Re: vaccines for children

Hi

Simple answer, an attack of the hives is better than an attack of any of the diseases.

That is just my personal view.

Re: vaccines for children

Hives and diarrhea are not generally life threatening . The diseases these vacccines prevent are .
I wouldn't like to have to explain to a child why they had polio when a simple vaccine could have prevented it .

Re: vaccines for children

Hi Susan I think your daughter needs to discuss her fears with the doctor.
I am guessing the vaccination is diphtheria/tetanus/whooping cough/polio.
If your granddaughter can now eat eggs without a severe reaction I would be inclined to go ahead with the vaccination.

Re: vaccines for children

The measles and mumps viruses are grown on a culture which contains chick embryo cells but not on eggs.
This means that there is not enough egg protein in the MMR vaccine to cause allergic reactions, children with severe egg allergies can safely receive the MMR.
This issue has been carefully studied and confirmed that there is no increased risk of reactions to the MMR vaccine in children who are allergic to eggs.
For children and adults with an egg allergy there are alternative vaccines such as an egg-free inactivated flu vaccine.

Re: vaccines for children

Susan Grace was also allergic to egg when she was a baby and reacted very badly to her vacs, but the ones she had at 5 were fine, she had grown out of the problem or they had changed the vac. Tasha discussed it with the GP before she had it and they did it and kept an eye on her for an hour after it just in case but she was absolutely fine.

I think I'd chat to the GP and see if they can do it and then keep a close eye in case she does react.

She shouldn't have it and be left in case she reacts badly.

Hives etc can turn to anaphylaxis in extreme cases. Always best to be careful.

Re: vaccines for children

Hi Susan

I'm sure you already know my views on the relentless and aggressive push of vaccinations so I won't dive into conspiracy theories.

I'm sure you will do your research to protect your grand daughter, that's what's important. Here's some info I dug up to add to your own.

Firstly, any so called "specialist" who tells you that hives and diarrhoea are not known adverse effects of these vaccines is, frankly incompetent. Simply find out the name of the vaccine involved and look it up and you will find all the ingredients and side effects.

There are 2 booster vaccines in the UK as I have read which are Repevax and Infanrix IPV.

Ask your GP to tell you which one they would be using.

REPEVAX

The following site has this to say about this vaccine:

http://www.laleva.org/eng/2012/12/va...ant_women.html

"Repevax contains a total of nine different antigens, all injected in a single vaccination!"

"Repevax contains aluminum, which is rapidly being shown in scientific studies to be extremely dangerous in vaccines and a likely cause of autism, other developmental disorders, and autoimmune disorders".

"It contains phenoxyethanol, which is noted as being toxic to organs. Japan restricts its use in cosmetics. The European Union restricts its use to low exposures in the workplace".

"It also contains polysorbate 80, which is has been shown to cause ovarian deformities, degenerative follicles, hormonal changes, and womb and vaginal changes in rats."

"it’s true that babies can die from whooping cough. However, it’s also true that the vaccine itself has resulted in a more virulent kind of whooping cough, one that’s ten times more deadly that the original, as has been documented by Gaia Health. So, it’s not only possible, it’s likely that infants who do contract whooping cough are ten times more likely to die of it now than they were before the vaccine."

INFANRIX IPV

"Infanrix-IPV should not be used in:

- Sudden feverish illness (the vaccine should be postponed until after recovery).
- Children who had an allergic reaction to a previous dose of a diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough or polio vaccine.

- Children who are allergic to formaldehyde or the antibiotics neomycin or polymixin B.

- Children who experienced severe illness affecting the brain (encephalopathy) within seven days of receiving any previous vaccine against whooping cough.

-Children who experienced other neurological complications (affecting the brain, spinal cord or nerves) following a previous vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough or polio.

Possible side effects of Infanrix-IPV

"Vaccines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this vaccine. Just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all children having this vaccine will experience that or any side effect."

Very common (affect more than 1 in 10 children)

- Pain, redness and swelling at the injection site.
- Fever. (This can be reduced with paracetamol or ibuprofen - ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for advice.)
- Loss of appetite.
- Irritability.
- Restlessness.
- Unusual crying.

Common (affect between 1 in 10 and 1 in 100 children)

- Nausea and vomiting.
- Diarrhoea.
- Feeling generally unwell (malaise).
- Feeling weak.
- Swelling of injected limb.

[b]Uncommon[B] (affect between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1000 children)

- Rash.

Rare (affect between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 10,000 children)

- Swollen glands.
- Itching.
- Hives.

Unknown frequency

- Allergic reactions.
- Convulsions.

It can be seen then that diarrhoea would be deemed a "Common" side effect of this vaccine and hives would be deemed "Rare"

Nevertheless Rosie could easily be that 1 in 1000+ child that is affected.

Finally here are some facts about Polio itself which may be of interest:

POLIO

"Polio (poliomyelitis) mainly affects children under 5 years of age

There were 74 reported cases worldwide in 2015

Of the 3 strains of wild poliovirus (type 1, type 2, and type 3), wild poliovirus type 2 was eradicated in 1999 and case numbers of wild poliovirus type 3 are down to the lowest-ever levels with the no cases reported since a case reported by Nigeria in November 2012.

Since 1984 there have been no cases of Polio contracted naturally in the UK, and vaccination has eradicated the disease from Europe, and almost all other countries as well. Polio is now endemic in just two countries. Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The virus is passed on from person to person through contact with faeces, saliva or mucus."

How likely is Rosie to be going to known Polio countries?
Even so, how likely is she to share faeces, saliva or mucus with anyone there?

Nuff said imo

Still, the "fear campaign" that comes as obligatory with all vaccines will be a fearsome opponent.

As a child I never had the Whooping Cough (pertusis) vaccine. I came down with the illness in 2012. Started as a bad deep hoarse cough for over a week which then developed into the "whoop" stage or rather in adults that noise issued when you are utterly breathless and draw in breath as if you'd been suffocated.

Overall it lasted 2 to 3 weeks. At one stage my throat was so bad that my airways would be gummed up and make it hard to breath. This happened during sleep when my throat muscles relaxed. I would wake up gasping for air but unable to draw proper breath.
I was concerned enough at this effect to go to the local A&E where first time I sat for 6 full hours whilst all the other nightly victims were treated ahead of me. The useless gimps of the NHS wouldn't know Whooping Cough if it slapped them around the face. In fact they laughed at my condition or rather my reaction to it. I told them straight that on waking I could barely breath at all, which was totally true and that I was half expecting to need a trachiotomy if it was worse. The young nurse on duty just smirked. She said to me, and I swear every word is true,

"You will simply pass out from being unable to breath, collapse, and then your muscles will relax and then you'll start breathing again"

In short I believe she considered my condition to be more along the lines of hyper ventilation.

What a clutz !

During the years around 2012 there was apparently an epidemic of Whooping Cough in the UK and other countries though it was of course kept rather under wraps.

The NHS grunts were utterly clueless.

In the end I went home, took no medications whatsoever and went to bed with a glass of milk by my bedside which I would sip whenever I woke suddenly.

My body simply dealt with the illness and I recovered.

Would it have been better to have had a vaccine loaded with dubious ingredients? My personal view . . . Nope.

But each to their own

Re: vaccines for children

Thankyou all very much , and I was hoping realist would reply as he has so Thankyou .

Daughter has seen her doctor many times since rosies last vaccination and they sent her to the specialist who poo pooed the severe reaction . Rosie became covered in hives like wasp stings and was very very poorly , then became allergic to cows milk and then months of dioreah. So you can Immagine our predicament.

Julie , I'm pleased grace was ok with her vaccine Thankyou for your reply .

Daughter has now made contact with an allergy specialist in Surrey so we shall see what he says .

I refused my child the whooping cough vaccine when she was a baby as there were some dreadful reactions in children , I took a chance and I was lucky and she never had any problems .

I so appreciate your replies x

Re: vaccines for children

As it should be IMO Bruce, we need as many as possible to have the vaccs or we will see a resurgence of terrible illnesses.
