Millenial Pay

Young men born between 1981 and 2000 are the first ones to earn less than their predecessors. Is that because we are all in it together or is it because there are very few "real" jobs anymore?

That's about the time we sent them all to university to deflate the unemployment figures Purwell [It has become a rite of passage now] they were told if they obtained qualifications they would get good jobs. Unfortunately most of them can be seen serving in your local MacDonalds or KFC where there is not much demand for qualifications in 'Media Studies' and 'The Arts'....

Re: Millenial Pay

Several reasons IMO fewer real jobs, wages generally have stagnated, too much cheap labour from Europe and bosses and shareholders taking more out of businesses than they pay in wages to people making the profit for them.

Re: Millenial Pay

It's all about to lead to disaster unless property prices drop considerably., which won't happen whilst London calls the tune. The same will happen in the north as in London once HS2 makes commuting so much easier, causing the property prices to soar into the millions.

At the moment our generation of home owners ( weren't we the lucky ones ? ) can pay for our care homes needs, and leave nothing to our children. For the next generation, that will not be happening. So who will pay for the care then ? It will be even worse than it is now.

In the meantime, we have qualified young people unable to pay back their student loans, unable to afford to get married, unable to afford to have a family and in many cases men still at home with their parents at the age of 35-40 yrs.

What the hell has gone wrong ?

And add to that they are selling off the university debts to a company that will make money out of them. I'm predicting a real mess in near future and I'm not sure if won't end in violence eventually.

Re: Millenial Pay

Your predictions are probably correct Julie.

Of course the older generation are blamed for it all, including the cost of medical science being able to keep them alive for longer.

Then blamed for living too long. They need our homes, and they need our money. Be warned.......no one was complaining about the 65+ age group when the Liverpool Pathway was in operation. Only since that has been abandoned has the finger of blame once again been pointed.

What is to stop the Liverpool Pathway being re-introduced ? Who introduced that in the first place anyway ?

Or by those that took all the risks to build the business and employing those that have no risk whatsoever.

Why take all the financial risk to build a business if you are going to take less pay than those you employ?

I'm not talking about them many of the bosses at the top roam from one company to another they have never built anything from scratch at all. I'd say small business owners are likely more generous thank the big business owners, they see their employees daily and know how hard life can be, the rich at the top of the big businesses have no idea how their employees live.

I've seen small business owners in tears at making someone redundant, the big bosses just name a number and forget all about the lives they are affecting.
