Good luck!
Yes, but CT is completely different from MR.

From a patient's perspective, a much shorter enclosure (nothing like an MR 'coffin') and also the scans are usually much quicker, and quieter!

Yes, injection with radionuclides is for a nuclear medicine or PET scan.

Whereas CATS are usually kept as PETS, PET scans are nothing like CAT scans!

Oh I'm so witty.

Re: Has anyone here had an MRI scan

The lady who booked my MRI scan told me that MRI scans are for looking at muscles and connecting fibres and that CAT scans are for looking at bones but when I rang the hospital to discus my MRI scan the radiographer told me mine was to look at my spine, so now I am confused

Not wishing to sound unkind, but would you believe a radiographer or a receptionist?

Both imaging modalities do both, but each has its strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, the spine itself contains soft tissue as well as bone: intervertebral discs, ligaments, the spinal cord itself, etc.

Re: Has anyone here had an MRI scan

Thanks JBR, it wasn't a receptionist who booked it but the lady who saw me to examine me to get at the bottom of my problem but I don't know what her job title is, she herself booked me in to have the MRI done on my spine then told me what I explained above

Sounds like she may have been a doctor. However, that goes to prove the point that not all doctors understand the practicalities of medical imaging. That's why we have specialists: each with his or her own specialist knowledge.

Or perhaps she was just oversimplifying things to make her explanation easier!

Eight pages .... are all Poms this thick ??

Take one (or two) 5mg valium (or a half bottle of Scotch), go into 'the tube', close your eyes and think of England.

DONE !

Re: Has anyone here had an MRI scan

I had one recently but fortunately only went in as far as my shoulders so my head was out. I am claustrophobic so I would have to be sedated if the whole of me went in.

Some scanners have quite a high head clearance but this one and the one my hubby had prior to me the head clearance was just a few inches.

Re: Has anyone here had an MRI scan

Like everything, first time is falsely worrying. You are given a button to alert operators if you are distressed. Go in relaxed. I'm on the seventh for acoustic neuroma and get a double dose each time.
The most important is to get ready in the waiting room. Remove everything magnetic and credit cards, place in a carrier bag (you will be given a locker)
The service works flat out 24 hours, routine scans are often on a Saturday. Delays create problems for operators.
