Donald Tump has declared 'America and American People First

Why can't the government here in the UK do the same?
There are many desperate people here that need help.

They insist on giving £billions of Foreign Aid to Countries where much is not accounted for and goes to make the wrong people rich.
They choose to ignore puplic opinion and increase this aid every year
Very unfair and heartless too

But one must ask what one means by first. In the case of Trump's slogan, it is belied by destruction of consumer protections, financial protections, environmental protections and the only thing America is now first in is ridicule. And beware of leaders that proclaim they are putting their country first, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un tells us he is putting his country first. Most countries put out less that one percent of their annual funding for foreign aid. And that is often to buy allies, manipulate foreign policy, and in some cases hopefully to help people.

I still think we need to give DT some time.
He's not been in long and it appears on the face of it that many have a vendetta against him and almost want him to fail.

Time will tell I suppose!

Azure , I feel the same , when Trump said this it resonated with me and I thought why can't our government put us first too .

I wish they would too but I expect they would receive the same negative response as Trumpy. If the government announced today that they were stopping all foreign Aid, there would be endless petitions, endless luvvy protests, rioting and of course they would be labelled racists by the Corbynites.

I get the feeling that May wants to put Britain first but maybe it will take some time.

If that is true, how stupid must the UK government be ?
Surely they don't just dole out bucket-loads of cash - with no oversight, no management, no controls, no 'due diligence' ???

This might have happened in the past.
These days, programs are set up to provide water or hospitals or schools etc with the donor-country strictly controlling the funds.
They pay for the materials, they pay the workers, they supervise the planning and audit the funds.
If not ........................ suffer !

And very often, there are strings attached (spoken or unspoken). Defence agreements, trade, votes at the UN - whatever.

You have not been listening, the UK government throws money at these Johnny Foreigners like it's going out of fashion, Farage said so and he knows everything, such a nice chap too!
