Well done to the Tories...but think there is a lot more to weed out.
It must be lovely to live in an uncaring fantasy world such as yours. How many of those "shirkers" and "parasites" are still alive? According to the government's own figures, some 90 people a month are dying from their illnesses after being declared "fit to work." In the two years between December 2013 and February 2015, 2650 people died after being found fit for work, many within 6 weeks of the assessor's decision. The increasing ferocity of the assessment process has no doubt meant that the death rate has increased since then. But, hey - they were only disabled people, mostly old, so who cares? Let's just dismiss them as "shirkers" and "parasites" and we can happily shrug off the deaths as an unfortunate side effect of the "weeding out" process.

A further aspect of the "assessment" process is the competence of those carrying it out. All three companies which have had contracts for this work have admitted that their assessments fail to reach the appropriate standards set by the DWP. ATOS's contracts have now been discontinued but Capita and Maxima continue. Their work hasn't just been criticised by those with an axe to grind (Disability groups etc) but in a major report by the Audit Commission. So, who should we believe on assessments? One the one hand we have the GPs, the consultants and the specialist medical staff who support the claimants and on the other the poorly qualified or unqualified staff employed by an admittedly incompetent commercial company given targets of claims to fail. Hmmmmmm - I know who I'd believe!

Excellent post Micky but I wish it wasn't needed. Doesn't take much to find the real story but some prefer to rant about shirkers etc.

It'd be interesting to know how many of those 40,000 decisions were mistakes and how many were spot on....without those figures we are not in a position to criticise....surely?

Makes the whole thread meaningless.

If one of them was a mistake it is one too many.

I read somewhere 3 out of 4 are over turned on appeal, of course that's too late for many as their money stops immediately and they are weeks with out any.

Might be kinder less suffering if they did it quickly.
