What is 'Old'?

What age do you consider to be "Old?"

When I was a kid, anyone with grey hair was old.

Now I am knocking on a bit myself, I don't see it that way, but do the youngsters see me as old I wonder?
I think some do, because I have noticed one or two lately calling me "dear" and being extra helpful. This is all very sweet, but makes me feel older still.

In the world of technology I am lost. When the nice man in the mobile phone shop looks glassy eyed and sighs, as he explains something for the tenth time, I don't feel sorry for him, I get cross and feel he is not explaining it properly.
Does that make me old?

I talk to myself a lot more than I used to, and now I don't care if I'm caught doing it in public either.
Does that make me old?

There is a poor old lady 2 doors down from me, who cannot get out by herself any more, has meals delivered and has let the garden go wild. She is very frail.
She would probably give her right arm to be as well as me.

So what is 'Old' to you?

Re: What is 'Old'?

When I was 16/17 and venturing into pubs more frequently the lads of 30 were seen as the older guys...so much wisdom and experience(so we thought).

Then when I hit my 30,s...60 was old.

Now, anyone older than me, is OLD

Well I feel old quite often at the school gates looking at the yummy mummy's and the beautiful au pairs picking up the kids, but other times I think about twenty years time I'll be old.

I was 12 when my father was 40, I was concerned as he was so old I didn't think he would live much longer. He managed another 43 years.

It seems these are the signs, if you are old!

1. You fall asleep watching TV or reading the paper
2. You become forgetful
3. You groan when getting up from a chair or out of bed
4. You say ‘back in my day’
5. You choose clothes for comfort rather than style
6. You repeat yourself
7. You have no idea what is in the music charts
8. You insist ‘things aren’t as they used to be’
9. You choose places to eat because they play quiet music
10. You have an afternoon nap
11. You don't know the names of current celebrities
12. People offer you a seat on public transport
13. You prefer to stay in rather than go out drinking
14. You have a low tolerance for teenagers
15. You forget where your glasses are
16. Choosing to meet friends for lunch or dinner rather than a night out for drinks
17. Choosing a cup of tea over an alcoholic drink
18. Wear slippers all the time
19. You watch ‘old’ TV shows like Antiques Roadshow
20. You spend weekends or bank holidays in garden centres
21. Gardening is a hobby
22. You only listen to music from your youth
23. You don’t hesitate to complain about poor customer service
24. You always take an umbrella or coat out with you, just in case
25. You get a haircut to ‘suit your age’

I have done my own thing all my life, and continue to do so. My interests are very different to those of the general population but they suit me.
