Australia Post is having the same problem - someone has to pay the CEO's $5.6million salary. It recently put the cost of an ordinary letter up to $1 (50p) (being an egalitarian country we don't have First and Second class mail) though we pensioners get a concession stamp for 60c (30p).

Australia is a bit bigger than the tiny UK; Sydney to Perth is 3000km so even a $1 stamp per letter seems a bargain.

Re: Postage Stamps

So - how do prices/distances compare, say from London to Los Angeles or London to Liverpool?

Who has a good postal service? here chaos reigns, delivery fro 1100 to 1500 and a different postie from day to day. When we lived in Farnborough, 0700 daily and you could set a clock by him - a Percie Thrower lookalikeŽ

My experience of consultancy work at a head office in London was the customer was at the bottom of their wish list....

Re: Postage Stamps

We've had a lot of temps over the years and been put on the end of various other rounds, so not the best service but that changed about a year ago we now have our own postie and he's great, has made it his mission to be helpful to folks. I give him a cuppa if he has time, and he uses the loo if he needs to. He always carries doggy treats so ours love him.

Concessions are a good idea, but how can they stop you buying in bulk and passing them on to your younger friends and family, or even selling them at a profit?

They say the increases were necessary to maintain its legal requirement to deliver to every UK address at least once a day, every day, from Monday to Saturday.

Soon adds up if you're sending many letters or cards though.
It sure does. I guess the airmail postal charges will go up too & I have pen pals all over the World as well as here in Britain.
