Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

Watched a bit of Dickens stuff over the Christmas “You have a way about you that most people wouldn’t find unpleasant” From ”The Old Curiosity Shop”, I suppose that was Dickens way of saying your OK. I love his writings.
I once had the complete works of Dickens back in the 70's they arrived one or two books at a time from a reputable book firm.and I paid £1 per book - imitation leather covers! gave the entire set to my daughter years later and she gave them away - a microcosm of his times. I do believe reading him stimulates the brain cells whereas watching a film can be a passive affair.

I do have "christmas carol" dvd with Jim Carrey - took a while to get into that one! bloody ghosts everywhere!

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

I'm glad you all had a good Christmas, very appropriate Sweetie, the old red fella getting booted out for another year.

Well I must say I was surprised yesterday morning when I turned on the TV, three BBC channels were showing religious programs practically at the same time. BBC1 BBC2 and BBC news. coming from Kings College and All Saints, Is Christianity making a comeback in Britain?, young and old everyone singing praise the lord, amazing how these things come and go ain’t it, I was so moved that I nearly got up into the attic to dust off me old hymn book and join in the joyous praise. everyone got holy for the day it seemed, good luck to them.
Could London be sticking two fingers up to Trump and becoming the new Jerusalem?

Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)

I listened to a radio interview with a prominent writer and journalist who said

"trump won the election cos he could see clearly hear what the people wanted and said he would give them it!! - the fact that he can't doesn't matter - he is a showman - promise the people magic. "

it can be called the great divide - between politicians who believe that THEY KNOW what the people want and promise they will deliver and those who listen to what the people are screaming for and promise it. that was the difference between clinton and trump.

putting your fingers in your ears spittie is akin to the australian ostrich with his head in the sand!

How ungrateful, you should have told her it's the thought that counts, but, if she has anger issues, that may be counter productive.
