Fish pie

Art's thread about the dinner party got me hankering for a fish pie tonight!

Normally I'd use haddock, salmon; prawns (If I have them in the freezer) and peas with courgettes or broccoli
I bung em all chopped in a dish with a cheddar sauce and top with mashed potato topping and a sprinkle of grated cheese to crisp and brown

Anyone else have an equally quick but different recipe?
I feel like a change but I don't tend to eat pastry these days

Re: Fish pie

My mum-in-law always put chopped up hard boiled egg in her fish pie..
Mixture of white and smoked fish...
Also, sliced potato golden brown on top instead of the ubiquitous mash makes a nice alternative.

Re: Fish pie

Hi

White sauce with dill rather than a cheese sauce, a dollop or two of creme fraiche.

If you do not like dill, a couple of teaspoons of garam massala.

Add a small tin of tuna to your usual fish and some sweetcorn .

I top mine with crisps.

Don't the slices sink in to the sauce while cooking Ruthio?
Also I find a smoked fish overpowers the others...ok in winter when you appreciate that rich taste in a kedgeree or similar but not so much at this time of year.

Swims
I love dill
But I like having salmon with a dill sauce
Or gravadlax (which is cured with dill and jumpers) with a mustard sauce ..
served with a salad, as I think in a pie you would lose the flavours

No, never known that to happen.

It's all pretty much cooked by the time you assemble it, I'll take a photo of the recipe if you like. It's yonks old, from a little book that came free with a newspaper... celebrity fish recipes, this one was from
