Poem for My Love

How do we come to be here next to each other
in the night
Where are the stars that show us to our love
inevitable
Outside the leaves flame usual in darkness
and the rain
falls cool and blessed on the holy flesh
the black men waiting on the corner for
a womanly mirage
I am amazed by peace
It is this possibility of you
asleep
and breathing in the quiet air

WHAT DO YOU FIND?



What do you find in a li’l boy’s pocket?
A rolled up piece of string
And a stick from a used rocket

A shiny pebble found in the spring
Some conkers past their best
A pencil to write with and other things

What remains of a moss lined Robin’s nest
Complete with empty shells
The answers to tomorrow’s maths test

A collection of dried up leaves that smell
Just like some baccy, probably “Old Holborn”
A pet mouse to make the li’l girls yell

Wealth and money are in fashion
But its not that way for all
Where is the spirit of compassion
The world is heading for a fall

The news programs are quite depressing
The world has gone quite mad
It's easy to forget the blessings
That in our lives we've so far had

In the midst of all of this woe
Kindness is still aboard
While most are beaten, going with the flow
To others a safe place is assured

Are you on your way to Glory?
Stepping out in faith be bold
Do you know the greatest story
That has ever been written, told

From nowhere strode the tattooed harbinger
Long black trailing coat flying at will
Straight through the crowd
Caught in his dark path
Slow raised long arm and bony finger
Pointing way ahead intently
Grim faced and pursuing his latest task
Is it me he’s looking for?
Or you?


Frantically
Down the alley
Where to hide?
Pale horse rides
In like thunder
Tearing asunder
False accusations
Destroying the nations

A CHRISTMAS CARD

Snowflakes kiss the window-panes,
children are carol singing,
every face wears a smile
And all the bells are ringing.
Christmas trees and mistletoe,
chestnuts and holly too –
all are part of the magick
that Christmas brings to you.
May it be your happiest,
filled with all good cheer –
and may I wish to you and yours
a wonderful New Year.
