Seriously, I'd be wary of using a commercial debt management advisor as my first port of call. Their referrals may not necessarily be the right solution for your situation.
Far better to use CAB or similar charitable independent free advice service.
This Money Advice Service page gives contact details for web based and telephone services plus a section at the bottom which will give you local face to face advice services in your area.

Thanks boot he is going to CAB initially and see what happens from there. If he sees his wife who has run off after causing this problem it may be police station first

That's unfair realist he is trying to pay off his wife's debts after she left him. She obviously had a gambling problem he had no idea about. The way she carried on I believe it must be a mental health problem. He's struggling to pay all that off while looking after their disabled daughter. Personally I admire his attitude to life, his determination to pay if all back.
