runner beans

This year the runner bean plants have gone crazy, we are even having to give some to neighbours there are so many.
I know the soil has had a good deal of compost on it during the winter and it certainly has paid off

Re: runner beans

I have lots of beans again this year though the high winds over the last couple of days have been blowing the blossoms off.
I give lots to the neighbours and family, this variety (Aintree) has a lovely flavour

Re: runner beans

Just been out( no pun intended )
The bean sticks are tilted at a dangerous angle due to strong wings and weight of beans .

Re: runner beans

Our runners are doing really well, we and our neighbour at the caravan have been enjoying them for weeks, our French beans however had decided to bloom beautifully and grow about 15 foot high up through the lilac tree behind it but not one bean !

My butternut squash hasn't even bloomed so I have no confidence in that at all.

I can't keep up with the courgettes and chives !

Re: runner beans

Excellent realspeed. They look nice.

I also picked some dwarf French beans this morning (about half that amount) but I only have one plant. It takes about two weeks to get enough for a meal. It was a bit of an experiment tbh so next year I plan to have three or four plants.

Re: runner beans

They look good Bazza
I pick mine when they are still quite small about 8 inches, they are still tender then.
I have been eating them almost every day since the first week in July
