Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

Bakerman, thank you for the information. This was quite an undertaking and I congratulate you for taking control of your diet. It can't be understated how difficult that can be. As a 30 year vegetarian, I have been fortunate to stave off diabetes when other members of my famiy (many extended) acquired the T2 form.

If physicians could prescribe cooking classes, exercise classes, sporting equiment, and shopping training, I think there would be a lot less prevalence of the disease.

Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

I am NOT pointing a finger at any one individual but rather at entire cultures when I say that the western diet is among the least healthy diets on the planet. We stuff ourselves with simple sugars in the form of ice creams, pastries, regular sodas, tea/coffee with white sugar, beer and highly processed flours. And in the process, over-tax our pancreas'. Added to that, every cell in our bodies is so loaded with sugars that insulin can no longer act effectively. Result = massively overweight people =diabetes T-2.

Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

They do say that Asian people are the most culture to get Diabetes TP2, because they do use a lot of Ghee, Sugar & Carbs in their diet.

In my opinion I don't think you should go on a diet as strict as yours, I think you should have a treat now and again, I couldn't stick to it as strict as you, I wish I could but I don't have willpower.

I am sensible in what I eat and I don't drink, but I eat a healthy diet with a treat every now and again.

Bakerman says:
it's not so much the ghee but rather the rice. Many S.E. Asian people practically live on rice. My wife needed rice at EVERY meal. To be sure, when we were on the road, headed to the mountains, she could tolerate a hamburger and fries but when we got to the high mountains, and after I caught her 3 big fat trout, she refused to eat until I cooked up a pot of white rice.

Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

I worked as a secretary for over twenty years for Endocrine & Diabetes Specialists. It is quite correct to say there is a high rate of diabetes in the Asian population but there is also an increase in their becoming diabetic when adopting to our Western food. There is also a high incidence of diabetes amongst Native Americans such as in Alaska.

My boss always said for the numbers of the population with Type II diabetes, there was an equivalent number of people walking around with undiagnosed diabetes. We set up several random glucose checks in local community centres and always turned up quite a lot of people with high blood sugar levels.

Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

There is a lot more to T2 diabetes to address, once thought of as adult onset it occurs in children 15 to 20% diagnosed are normal or underweight, last time i checked there were 38 gene differences between t2 and normal folks, a Swedish study put blame on mothers who smoked in pregnancy.

The list goes on, a lot of money is made from the back of Diabetes and its treatment, a cash cow for some.

My last 2 BG tests were 3.8 and 4.0, and i was interested to read recently that a company has developed an app that allows a non invasive blood test. If this is true then a lot of companies are in for a financial hit.

Re: Diabetes t-2 in remission

I’m reading and hearing more and more that type 2 is completely reversible

There’s many a doctor now coming out of the woodwork and saying, lose the weight, cut the carbs, and you too can live a life without meds. And I’m also reading and hearing of more and more people doing so and reversing type2

There are doctors who call it the obesity disease, because it can be reversed/put into remission through diet and exercise

Bakerman,
This whole thing about what causes T-2 and if it is "reversible", is a real hot-button issue. I agree with what you cited but there are many diabetics who would have my head for saying so.
