Re: Winter Blues

I hate winter, well I suppose I'm OK up to Christmas, I have this notion that there's something on the horizon something to aim for, ( not that I particularly look forward to the festive season) its just something to focus on, January always seems to go on forever, but February brings the first signs of spring and the lighter nights and warmer weather (yeah right) aren't too far away, the clocks go back soon, I will be suicidal

Re: Winter Blues

For years I tried to make that fantastically happy Christmas that Disney does so well

Only to fail

Now Christmas fits around us. We don’t go overboard , we buy a small thoughtful gift each and that’s it. A slap up dinner, maybe a starter and a glass of baileys whilst watching a movie

We don’t pander to Christmas any more. We do one that suits us

Re: Winter Blues

I was diagnosed with SAD, by our then doctor, a lot of years ago. I was actually quite pleased with his diagnosis because I thought I was suffering from some kind of depression. I felt lethargic, I would have been happy to stay in bed all day, I couldn't get interested in anything, along with other symptoms. I was asked lots and lots of questions and the doctor came to the conclusion it was SAD. I was loaned a light box from the surgery, but quite frankly I can't say it helped.

The doctor suggested winter sun holidays. We took our main holidays over Christmas and New Year for many years, and yes it did help, until we returned to the cold, wet, grey days anyway.

Since living abroad it's rare I suffer the same feelings, it really is amazing what sunshine and bright days can do for someone's feeling of well being.

Re: Winter Blues

I don't mind them; Spring and early Summer are the worst for me.

I love getting up when it's still dark outside.
