There's a triffid in my garden!

I have no idea what it's called, but there are two and they come back every year to look like this.
The flower on the right was only a bud last night when I went to bed.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I think you might be right. They were given to us by a late friend so we always remember him when they flower.

I think you might be right. They were given to us by a late friend so we always remember him when they flower.
I've got some but I cut the tops off the really tall ones when I took the pic

Just check them over periodically for Lily Beetles. The beetles are a reddish colour and will quickly eat them.

I was unwell during spring and by the time I was well enough to take notice there were beetles everywhere.

I thought I'd got them all but grubs have appeared and eaten lots of the leaves So there must still be adult beetles about but I can't find them.

I'm out there everyday clearing the grubs off and squashing them, I'm going to have to lift the bulbs and clear all that compost out now

Ooh I didn't know that. Thanks for the warning.
