New TV Licensing phishing scam

I am sure you are all too sensible to do this but....
I have had an e mail, from TVLICENSE [janalins@ruhrwelt.com] today telling me that they owe me £84.07, but they cannot refund it because they don't have my correct bank details. There was a link to get through to them so I could get my refund.
I knew that they did have bank details, because I pay my license by direct debit, so I phoned to ask them if they had sent it. They hadn't but told me that this is a very new phishing scam, and to delete the e mail and not to click on the link. It seems they are after your bank details so they told me to advise people that I know, because they have had a few calls this morning about this and quoting the same address.

Hi Twink no doubt someone somewhere will fall for it.

Many of these scams rely on people's greed .

Re: New TV Licensing phishing scam

I would have clocked that was a scam straight away as we pay our TV licence by direct debit.

I don't think I would have fallen for it but thanks for the warning, I hope the licensing authorities are as good as PayPal at seeking these people out.

I told them that I would be happy to mention it on my over 50's forum and they said "Please do, because if we owed you money we would ask to to phone us on the number you are calling now."
So many people use the internet now, but not all are aware that they shouldn't believe all they read.

Exactly what part of ruhrwelt.com or janalins suggested to you that this could have anything to do with your UK TV licensing?

Thanks Twink

Hopefully TV Licensing will email customers to warn them seeing as they already know about it.

None if it, that is why I rang TV licensing so they could investigate it. There is little point in being smart and saying "I wouldn't get caught", when there are folk, who may get caught and you can help them with a couple of sentences

You did exactly the right thing twink, they always want to know so they can investigate.
