The Old Fart Thread

When does someone become an old fart? Some say its not relevant as its all in the mind . What do you regard as an old fart?

Re: The Old Fart Thread

Its all in the attitude! To me, an old fart is just a sourpuss that has lost their zest for life; it doesn't really have an age.
I know a man in his 40's at the time, that was a real stick in the mud. He did nothing but watch tv and complain a lot.

On the hand, I've heard of an 80+ women in my Dads village that used to do her shopping with her bicycle. My Dad himself used to call himself "the big kid". He built motorized models and belonged to a modeling club that had monthly meets. He was in his 60's at the time. He loved good music, especially swing, and was quick with a joke. He died at 81, and he was never an "old fart".

It is certainly a state of mind. One must battle the "old fart" attitude at all times. I live with my son. It is the only way to survive.

To some people an "Old Fart" is someone who has a different attitude to life than himself/herself.

I wonder what a "new fart" is. How else can you become and old fart.

It's usually aimed at a grumpy old person. One who doesn't try and move with the times as much as they could. Never done whinging. You've got to feel sorry for them in a way

An Old Fart is a Fart that no longer causes distress to anyone, the impact of it's noise, or the fragrance of it's smell, no longer attracts disdain, I am an old Fart in between moments of activity.

Re: The Old Fart Thread

One of my old pals from way back when we met at our kids school open evening in the late 60s has turned into a real old fart. He was always happy, very friendly and jokey. Over the last few years he has become a miserable old sod! The worrying thing is we our going out for a pre Christmas meal with our respective wives very soon. I think I may well kill him before the evening is over!!
