Modern day humour

UJ sent me a link to an old Frankie Howard video today, and it made me realise how much our sense of humour has changed over the years. It also made me wonder what response that Frankie Howard series would receive if it were televised today? Or the Tony Hancock type humour come to that? It would full of innuendos, but you never got all the foul language a lot of todays comics think is funny.

Do you think that type of humour would still make audiences laugh today or would we be reaching for the remote?

Re: Modern day humour

Those of us used to it would still enjoy it, the people who have only witnessed todays humour probably wouldn't get it, I know my boys look at me like I have lost the plot when I watch some of our old videos they find them tame and unfunny.

I don't like in yer face humour, a lot of the comics today are 'loud' - shouting aint gonna make it funnier.
I loved Tony Hancock, I like expressive comics and he certainly was that.
I don't like too much innuendo, it gets tiresome, same old thing .......

Re: Modern day humour

I think that today's comedians confuse crude with funny and their audience feel obliged to laugh in case others think that they are prudes. True humour can get by with "double entendre" not foul language.

Exactly bit like he emperors new clothes, scared to say what they really think.
